Example Of Press Release
Press Release: 10 Rules of Engagement
There are several rules governing the creation of a press release. There are those set for the content and others for its optimization. In addition, there are guidelines given for the process of creation. Seemingly uncomplicated, a press release actually requires makers to be very sensitive towards its configuration. For it is only upon this that they can make use of it as a helpful and effective marketing tool. Press releases owe their reliable reputation to the rules that had long governed their make up. Hence, it is necessary for any interested practitioner to know about them if they want to keep and use that advantageous press release characteristic.
1.) Be Newsworthy. This cannot be emphasized enough. Don’t write about just anything. You’re making a news release, not a blog. Find a topic that’s up-to-date and socially relevant (of course, it should have a connection to your business) and expound on that one. You can also write about popular topics, those on a worldwide scale. This is so more people can relate to your write up. And consequently, you get a broader reader demographic, although technically, you should already have a target population in mind
2.) Headlines should be clear and catchy. Compare “A New Cricket Commemorative Product” to “Man Sells MCG for under $500”. Which do you think is more intriguing? A press release should spark the curiosity of target readers. You ca be as innovative as the example or be simple. It’s your choice. However, it would be an advantage if you can get people on their toes with your headline. You should remember though, to keep to your topic. Don’t allow your creativity to mislead.
3.) Be straight to the point. The shorter, the more target readers will read it it. The simpler, the more it can be understood. The more accurate, the more your press release will be trusted.
4.) Mention details. Mention company info, the author and other details such as groups, dates, locations, etc. to inform people that the press release being published actually comes from an pre-existing source and that it talks about real things.
5.) Write to be understood. No need for complicated words and sentence structures. Avoid jargons too.
6.) Exude a positive air. Positive is welcoming. Positive is interesting. Positive appeals to people better than negative news.
7.) Use the proper layout. Double spaced, with appropriately sized and readable fonts.
8.) Add some multimedia. Visually exciting things tend to fascinate people more.
9.) Proofread your press release to correct any grammatical errors and misspells.
10.) Personalize your distribution. This way, you are secured that it has been sent to the hands of appropriate media personnel.
